Romania,
Moldova, Ukraine - Eastern Europe
Real
Aid works closely with two other charities, Child’s Life and Mission Without
Border to develop and increase the amounts of aid sent to Eastern European
countries.

►Children’s Homes
Families in Romania are
among the poorest in Europe. Thousands of children are abandoned each year by
parents who cannot afford to feeds or care for them. Children with mental or
physical disabilities face the greatest threat of abandonment. Government
agencies and private charities have built “children’s homes” across Romania in
order to take in these homeless children. These institutions house more than
27,000 children. They are often under-funded, over-crowded and frequently lack
basic needs such as hot water and sanitary supplies.

Each year Real Aid sends
dozens of truck loads of goods to these children’s homes. We provide essentials
such as food, clothing and toiletries as well as educational materials and toys
to help improve the daily lives of these children.
►Street
Children
Thousands of children in
Romania, especially in the capital of Bucharest, live in the streets. By day,
they beg and steal. At night, they often turn to prostitution in order to earn
money to feed themselves. Many live in underground tunnels, sniffing glue to
get high and find a brief escape from the misery. Some get pregnant and begin
raising new generations of street children.

Real aid is working with
local charities to distribute packages of food, clothing and toiletries to
children living on the street. Partnering with these groups, we also are
working to ensure younger children go to school and older children learn
professional skills needed to find jobs later in life. We recently delivered
dozens of sewing machines to local charities so they could teach teenagers how
to make clothes and find jobs as tailors.
